Excisional Surgery

What To Know About Excisional Surgery

Excisional surgery is a minor surgical procedure used to remove potentially cancerous lesions before they have a chance to spread. This procedure is often recommended for small to medium-sized moles or lesions in areas of the body typically covered by clothing.

Excisional surgery is a quick procedure done in that office. It is usually performed with local anesthesia. Following the procedure, the tissue is sent to the pathology lab to determine if it is cancerous. They will also check to see if all the cancerous cells were removed.
