You Can Reduce Wrinkles with These Skin Therapies from Your Dermatologist

Wrinkles might be a natural part of the aging process, but that doesn’t mean you have to force yourself to live with them forever. Wrinkle reducing treatments are growing more and more popular every day. Here are a few you might want to talk to your dermatologist about.

Laser Resurfacing

Laser resurfacing is a form of light therapy, also known as ablative laser resurfacing. During this procedure, a specially crafted laser destroys the outermost layer of skin and heats up the dermis, which is the underlying layer of skin. This process helps stimulate the production of collagen, which keeps skin supple and firm. While you may have the option for full sedation during an extensive resurfacing procedure, it is most typically minor procedure and performed as an outpatient treatment. That being said, this form of wrinkle-reducing treatment may take several months to heal fully from. If you’re looking for a less invasive treatment with shorter healing time, laser resurfacing might not be for you.

Chemical Peel

While you don’t need to have wrinkles to invest in a chemical peel, they are an excellent method of wrinkle treatment. In many cases, they are milder than what most movies and television shows depict. For this wrinkle treatment, a dermatologist will apply a chemical solution to your skin to remove the outermost layers. The skin that grows back after a chemical peel is softer, smoother, and more youthful. Depending on the intensity of your peel, you may need to have several treatments before you start seeing the desired results. So while this is a gentler wrinkle treatment, it also requires a bit more maintenance and patience.

Botox

Botox is one of the most popular anti-aging treatments. Typically used to reduce eye wrinkles, freeze frown lines, and stop forehead wrinkles in their tracks, Botox essentially relaxes the muscles that cause wrinkles with movement. However, it doesn’t “freeze” muscles in place — you’ll still be able to laugh and smile like you normally would! Botox is administered as an outpatient treatment, and typically only takes a few minutes. However, good aftercare is key to achieving optimal wrinkle reduction results in this case. Botox typically lasts a few months or so. Be prepared to invest in recurring injections to maintain your results.

Soft Tissue Fillers

Soft tissue fillers include injections of fat, collagen, and hyaluronic acid. These fillers are injected directly into wrinkles on your face. Whether you want to reduce eye wrinkles or get rid of those frown lines, fillers are certainly a viable option. These injections help smooth out wrinkles and plump up the skin. Soft tissue fillers are also administered during an outpatient procedure. You may experience slight redness, swelling, or bruising at the injection site immediately following your treatment. In addition, it should be noted that soft tissue fillers are not permanent. Like Botox, you’ll require recurring injections every few months or so to maintain optimal results.
